May 21, Kathmandu- The World Health Organization (WHO) has found cases of monkeypox in 11 countries. The organization has so far found 80 cases of monkeypox and warned that the infection could spread.
The organization also said it was investigating another 50 suspected cases. The transition to monkeypox was initially seen in the UK. Later, the virus was transmitted in Italy, Spain, Sweden, and Portugal, as well as in the United States and Canada.
The infection is most common in the Central and East African region. It is estimated that the infection has spread from Africa to other countries. The infection was found in a person returning from Nigeria in the UK.
The virus is said to reduce the risk as it is not easily transmitted from person to person. According to the UK's National Health Service, those infected with the virus have mild to moderate symptoms and will recover within a few weeks.
So far no vaccine has been developed against the monkeypox. But the vaccine used for smallpox is said to be 85 percent effective against monkeypox.
