Earthquake In Afghanistan: At Least 1,000 Killed

Jun 23, Kathmandu- At least 1,000 people have been killed in a powerful earthquake in Afghanistan.

A magnitude 6.1 earthquake centered in Afghanistan's Paktika province. The quake, measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale near the city of Khost, was felt in Pakistan and India.

Rescue teams are trying to save the people buried in the rubble. But heavy rains and a lack of physical infrastructure and resources are hampering rescue efforts. Villagers are assisting in the search and rescue operation in the wreckage of the collapsed building in Paktika. Rescuers say some people have been able to survive in the quake-ravaged village near the quake's epicenter.
