Bangladesh Seeks China Help To Repatriate Rohingya Refugees

Aug 8, Kathmandu: Bangladesh has appealed to China to properly manage the Rohingyas in its shelter.

Bangladesh has asked China to resettle the Rohingya refugees in Myanmar with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi who is visiting Bangladesh. Prime Minister Wazed made this request during the meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

During the visit, the Chinese Foreign Minister promised Bangladesh the best trade relations, investment, and cooperation for the infrastructure development of the South Asian country Bangladesh. China used its influence in Myanmar in August 2019 to broker a November 2017 agreement to resettle nearly seven million Rohingya Muslim refugees who fled Myanmar's military crackdown.

Despite attempts to send them back, the refugees have been demanding from the international community a guarantee of security during the implementation of the agreement saying that they will not be safe in Myanmar.
