Journalist Siddique Kappan Released After 28 Months

Feb 02, Kathmandu- Siddique Kappan, a journalist from the southern Indian state of Kerala, has been released after spending 28 months in prison. He was released on Wednesday after the Sessions Court in Lucknow signed a verdict on his bail in a case of money laundering.

In 2020, he was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police while going to report the Hathras gang rape. The Unlawful Activities Prevention Act was imposed against him.

In September last year, the Supreme Court of India granted him bail in all these cases. But he was not acquitted in the case related to illegal money transactions. That is why he was in prison for a long time. A month ago, the Allahabad High Court had earlier granted him bail in a money laundering case.
