Discussion In The MoE About The Nursing Campus Curriculum Dispute

Mar 23, Kathmandu- There has been a discussion about the curriculum controversy in Maharajgunj Nursing Campus under Tribhuvan University, Institute of Medical Sciences. Education, Science and Technology Minister Sumana Shrestha discussed the dispute. During the discussion, she gave instructions to resolve the dispute and resume teaching in the college.

Students of BMS (Bachelor of Midwifery Science) of the college have gone on strike protesting the syllabus and academic programme. After the lockdown, Minister Shrestha called the concerned parties and held a discussion.

The officials' meeting held under the coordination of the Minister of Education, Science and Technology discussed the issues raised by the students towards BMS towards nursing education.

Minister Shrestha, Chairman Medical Education Commission, Prada Anjani Kumar Jha, Vice Chancellor of Tribhuvan University, Prada Keshar Jung Baral, Education Secretary Suresh Adhikari, Institute of Medical Sciences, Dean Dr. Divya Singh Shah, Nepal Nursing Council President Sarla KC participated in the meeting.

The issues raised by the students were discussed in the meeting. They have alleged that the syllabus of BMS, BM and BSc Mid-Y Free is same and they were taught in one syllabus instead of different syllabus.

Regarding the dispute raised by them, the vice-chairman of the Medical Education Commission Jha said that the commission has recommended BMS study for the students who studied PCL nursing.

Similarly, the Vice-Chancellor of TU Prada Baral said that the same course as B.Sc Midwifery will be applicable for BMS as well. He said that the course has been officially approved by Tribhuvan University.

Similarly, Prada Shah, Dean of the Institute of Medical Sciences, said that although the curriculum of B.Sc. Midwifery and Bachelor in Midwifery Science is the same, the BMS degree will be awarded to the students towards BMS.

Nursing Council President KC also said that the students studying BMS would not have any problem in participating in the Nursing Council examination.
