Kidney Of A Pig Transplanted Into Living Humans In The US

Mar 25, Kathmandu- A genetically modified pig kidney has been transplanted into a living human for the first time.

Last Saturday, at the Massachusetts General Hospital in the United States, after a 4-hour operation, doctors transplanted a pig kidney to a 62-year-old man. American doctors have informed about this last Thursday. This important breakthrough in the medical field has opened a new door of possibilities for people dealing with kidney disease.

In 1954, the world's first kidney transplant was performed in this hospital. Currently, the health of 62-year-old Rick Slayman, who underwent a pig kidney transplant, is improving and he will be discharged from the hospital soon. According to doctors, the new kidney can work for years. Currently, with this success, there is a hope that in the future more animal organs can be transplanted into humans. Previously, pig kidneys were transplanted into brain-dead people as a test. But this is the first case of a pig kidney being transplanted into a living person.
