Itahari Gold Cup: Tribhuvan Army in semi-finals

Mar 26, Kathmandu- Tribhuvan Army Club has entered the semi-finals after defeating Birtamod United Jhapa by 3-2 in the third quarter-final match of Itahari Gold Cup held at Itahari, Sunsari.

Tribhuvan Army Club entered the semi-finals on the basis of a penalty shootout after a one-goal tie in the match held at Itahari Stadium last night under the auspices of the Rashtriya Jagriti Sansthan.

Jitendra Karki, Nawayug Shrestha and Phatteman Ghale of Tribhuvan Army scored goals in the penalty shootout, while Kamal Thapa's shot was blocked by Birtamod's goalkeeper Bibek Magar.

Birtamod's Bishal Darzi and Mausam Subba's shots turned into goals, while Vivek Poudel, Ashish Chapagain and Devendra Tamang's shots failed.

In the 81st minute of the scheduled time, Birtamod's Ashish Chapagai scored a penalty and gave the team the lead. Army's Nawayug Shrestha scored a penalty in the last minute of extra time and the match was tied.

Army's goalkeeper Bikesh Kuthu was declared the man of the match on Monday and received Rs 10,000 in cash. Today's final quarterfinal match will be between Church Boys United Kathmandu and New Road Team (NRT).

In the finals to be held next Saturday, the winner will receive a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh and the runner-up will receive a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh.
