Maharajganj Nursing Campus Remain Locked Even After Education Minister's Directive

Mar 26, Kathmandu- Maharajganj Nursing Campus locked by the students of BMS (Bachelor Midwifery Science) has not been opened. The students have locked the campus since 5th Chaitra, objecting to the syllabus and educational program. Education Minister Sumana Shrestha discussed the demands raised by the students on 9th Chaitra. During the discussion, he instructed to resolve the dispute and resume teaching in the college, but the lock has not yet been opened.

Minister Shrestha, Chairman of Medical Education Commission, Prada Anjani Kumar Jha, Vice Chancellor of Tribhuvan University, Prada Keshar Jung Baral, Education Secretary Suresh Adhikari, Institute of Medical Sciences, Dean Dr. Divya Singh Shah, President of Nepal Nursing Council Sarla KC participated in the meeting.

The vice-chairman of the Medical Education Commission Jha said that the commission has recommended BMS studies for students who have studied PCL nursing. Similarly, the Vice-Chancellor of TU Prada Baral said that the same course as B.Sc Midwifery will be applicable for BMS as well. He said that the course has been officially approved by Tribhuvan University.

Similarly, Prada Shah, Dean of the Institute of Medical Sciences, said that although the curriculum of B.Sc. Midwifery and Bachelor in Midwifery Science is the same, the BMS degree will be awarded to the students towards BMS.

Similarly, Nursing Council President KC said that the students studying BMS will not have any problem in participating in the Nursing Council examination.

The students have said that they have not received any information on the matter even though it has been discussed among the stakeholders. Maharajgunj Nursing Campus ISU Chairperson Nobina Basnet said that after the discussion, they have not received any official information from the Dean's office.

"We are protesting with different demands. The protest will be stopped only after the dean's office calls us to a negotiation and agrees. Otherwise, we do not know what was agreed upon there. We will open the lockout only after forming a negotiation committee and calling us for negotiations", said Speaker Basnet.
