11 Went Missing Due To Tropical Storm In China

Apr 22, Kathmandu- State media reported on Monday that millions of people missing due to the typhoon in southern China have been moved from the affected areas to safe places.

Recently, due to heavy rainfall in the southern province of Guangdong, the level of rivers has increased, and the fear of severe flooding has increased. The state media said that such a thing would happen 'only once in a century'.

The state news agency Xinhua reported, citing the local emergency management department, that 11 people were missing due to continuous heavy rains in many parts of Guangdong. According to the agency, more than 53,000 people have been relocated to avoid the risk of flooding.

More than 45,000 of them were displaced from the northern Guangdong city of Qingyuan. The city is spread over a wide river delta along the banks of a tributary, the Bei River.

Heavy rains are expected to continue on Monday as well. Meteorological officials have forecast "storm surges and strong winds in Guangdong's coastal waters" in the maritime area bordering major cities including Hong Kong and Shenzhen.

Neighboring provinces including Fujian, Guizhou and Guangxi will also be affected by "short-term heavy rains," according to the National Meteorological Center. Guangdong is the most densely populated province in China. Around 12.7 million people live here.

Six people were injured and many others were affected in a landslide due to heavy rains in Jiangwan city.

Images from state broadcaster CCTV showed people taking refuge in a public sports court after houses were destroyed by walls of gray mud.

CCTV reported that the Pearl River's tributaries will be flooded at 5.8 above the warning limit on Monday morning.
