Parents who Contribute to Educational Improvement to be Awarded

April 13, Kathmandu- Sixty-five parents of fourteen schools in Khanikhola village municipality and five parents of four schools in Chamrangbensi of Bechanchowk village municipality-1 have been honored for their special contribution for the educational improvement of the children by monitoring and visiting the teaching and learning activities of community schools.

Nangsala Association Dhulikhel President Dinesh Lama said that the best monitoring parents have been honored for their continuous monitoring and visits to the school from time to time with the objective of improving the educational activities of the school and the education of their children.

Chairman Lama said that the best monitoring parents have been honored as an additional incentive to visit and inspect the school where their children are studying.

"We have found that parental respect promotes quality basic education in schools, which has helped teachers to attend school regularly and other activities," Lama said. He said that about 200 outstanding parents have been honored so far under the quality basic education and child rights promotion project of the organization.

The association has implemented the project at four local levels of the district with the help of an NGO called 'We World'. The principal of the school, Hari Prasad Ghimire, said that the continuous monitoring and visit of the parents has made a significant contribution for the educational improvement of the school. Ward Chairman Somnath Ghimire said that the discussion between teachers and parents on the educational reform of children would be very important.

Rajan Poudel, program coordinator of the organization, said that the organization has provided scholarships along with educational materials and health materials to about 313 outstanding students studying in four local level schools.

The organization has so far distributed water tanks with hand-washing facilities in 68 schools, thermal logs to each school and 6,500 cotton masks and sanitizers to 3,250 students.
