20 Children Killed In School Fire

April 14, Kathmandu- At least 20 children have been killed in a school fire in the Nigerian capital, Niger, on Tuesday.
According to firefighters, 21 classrooms in the straw-covered school were damaged. About 20 children were trapped in the same classroom and set on fire.

CD Mohammad, commander of the fire department, said rescuers brought the fire under control immediately. But the fire was so fierce that not all the children could be rescued, nor could they escape, he said.
Eyewitnesses said that the children were studying in their classrooms when the fire started. However, the exact cause of the fire is not known.

Prime Minister Ohomondou Mohammed immediately inspected the site. Niger is one of the poorest countries in the global human development index. In this country of the Sahel region, the authorities have built many straw-covered schools where children often sit on the ground and study. Fires continue to occur in these schools, but such a terrible fire has never happened before.
