Silence has prevailed in Kohalpur Municipality-2 since Friday morning. The locals were scared saying that the body of the infected woman was kept inside the house. The body was neither wrapped in plastic nor sanitized.
The deceased's husband had gone to India. When he arrived, his relatives were waiting for him. Neighbor Ishwari Prasad Bishwakarma informed the people's representative of the municipality that it was unsafe to keep the infected body inside the house. However, no one came from the municipality. "Nobody cares," he says.
The family rushed the 32-year-old woman of Kohalpur Municipality-2 to the hospital in an ambulance on Thursday. Initially, she went to Kohalpur Medical College but her hospital refused to admit her saying that it could not provide an oxygen facility. He was then taken to Nepalgunj Nursing Home. The nursing home did not open the gate. Her condition worsened as she ran to the hospital. When he reached the government hospital in Bheri, he had to wait in line for treatment.
The doctor did not admit him saying that there was no oxygen and Wade was lacking. She was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance and died on the spot. His body was not confirmed to be infected as there was no PCR examination.
The ambulance brought the body home and released it saying it should not be kept in the vehicle for a long time. How do relatives manage the corpse? Her father-in-law was forced to keep her daughter-in-law's body inside the house while she waited for her son in India.
So on Friday, this toll was frightening. ‘Unsanitary corpses are kept open even in plastic. Because of this, we are afraid that the infection will spread in the toll road as well, ”said a local. They are surprised by the indifference of government bodies. He said that neither the ward representative nor the health team of the municipality nor the monitoring committee cared.
A meeting of district administration chief Shivaram Gelal, police chief Om Rana, MP Aarti Poudel, mayor Lut Bahadur Rawat, deputy mayor Sanju Kumari Chaudhary, municipal administration chief Chhavilal Nepali and other party leaders was held at the same time on Friday. However, as soon as they received the information about the body lying inside the house, they were silent on the issue of taking steps towards management. Mayor Rawat tried to escape saying that no one had informed him in time, while Chaudhary, the coordinator of the monitoring team, kept on saying, "This is also a process, we will do it in detail." After the discussion, they went home. No one came to monitor the body lying inside the house.
Ward-2 chairperson Karnasingh Budha Chhetri claims that he died due to corona infection even though he did not undergo PCR. He said that five people have been confirmed infected in the ward so far and two have no PCR. He said that it was the negligence of the family to bring the body inside the house.
He said that the body was being cremated with the help of family members. The woman, who had been running a meat shop, had even mingled with her neighbors. Due to this, all the residents of the toll road will be prepared for PCR check, said ward chairperson Chhetri. "People are not sensitive to the transition," he concluded. "I see a lot of people suffering if there is such negligence."
