Flood In Manang: Bailey Bridge And Power House Flooded

June 15, Kathmandu- A power house, bailey bridge and a wooden bridge in Manang have been washed away by the floods after continuous rains. Similarly, half of the settlement in Talgaon has also been inundated.

Heavy rains since Monday evening have washed away the Bailey Bridge of Timang River in Chame Village Municipality-1. The 32-kilowatt Salkyukhola micro-hydro power plant in Timangkhola has also been flooded. Similarly, four houses in the district headquarters Chame have been damaged by the floods. Half of the settlement of Naso village municipality-1, Taal village has been inundated.

According to Meenarashi Gurung, a local of Talgaon, half of the settlement of Tal village, including Bhanu Mavis, has been inundated due to the flood in Marsyangdi. He said that the residents of the village, which has about 56 households, have been living under the rocks and some of them have come to Lamjung border area towards Myardibhir. According to him, telephone service in the village has also been disrupted. "We came to Mardivir and called," he said. Local Ved Bahadur Gurung said that the village was inundated and rescue was needed by helicopter.

According to DSP Subash Khadka of the District Police Office, Manang, the Chame Bazaar bridge has been blocked due to the floods in Ghattekhola. He said that one house and three additional wooden houses were washed away when the bridge was closed. The settlement was flooded when the bridge was blocked by stones. The house has started flooding after the flood. The market sector itself is at risk, ”he said. According to him, the Bailey Bridge of Timangkhola and the structure of the 32 KW Salkyukhola Micro Hydropower Project have also been washed away by the floods.

He said that there were problems in the rescue operation due to heavy rains and floods. Chief District Officer Bishnu Lamichhane said that further damage had been caused in the flood-hit area on May 31. The hydropower plant and the Bailey Bridge in Timangkhola have been flooded.
