Preparations To Bring Nepalis Back From Afghanistan

August 16, Kathmandu- Preparations have been started to repatriate Nepalis from conflict-torn Afghanistan. The government has formed a committee to coordinate the rescue of Nepalis in Afghanistan.

Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bharatraj Poudyal informed that the government has formed a committee under the coordination of Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Harish Chandra Ghimire to coordinate for the rescue of Nepalis in trouble in the conflict-ridden country of Afghanistan.

Speaking at the Committee on International Relations under the House of Representatives, he said the committee has been formed to represent the joint secretaries of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Labor, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Health, Nepal Police and CCMC.

"The purpose of the committee is to make sure that we rescue and rescue someone on our own. This mechanism has been set up by all the concerned bodies to coordinate and manage it," he said.

Secretary Poudel said that there are about 1,500 Nepalis in the formal sector in Afghanistan. He said he had received reports that Nepalis were not yet out of Kabul at the Afghan headquarters. He said that Nepalis belonging to the formal sector in Afghanistan are likely to come to Nepal on the initiative of the organization itself.

He said the government was in touch with embassies and missions in Afghanistan. According to Secretary Poudyal, the ministry will issue information to Nepalis living in Afghanistan to get in touch, create an online portal to inform them about their situation from anywhere and operate a one-to-one phone at the Consular Services Department and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by linking to WhatsApp and Viber.
