Civil Cooperative Scam Case: Artists' Association Urges Action Against Guilty

Mar 14, Kathmandu- Nepal Film Artists Association has called on the government to bring justice to the hundreds of citizens and filmmakers who have been victimized by the Civil Savings and Credit Cooperative Society Ltd.

A press release signed by the Vice President and Spokesperson of the Nepal Film Artists Association Mohan Niraula has appealed to all the concerned bodies to resolve the economic woes of the citizens and filmmakers of the country and give justice. It is mentioned in the release that hundreds of people including prominent filmmaker Bashundhara Bhusal, actress of Nepal's first color film Kumari, Chaityadevi Singh, and actress Anju Karanjit have become victims due to the cooperative.

The artists' association has demanded in a press release saying that the directors of the organization, especially Ichchha Raj Tamang and others were asked to collect the amount and the government of Nepal should take interest in this regard and give justice to the victims and take action against the culprits as the victims have also gone for legal treatment. Hundreds of citizens, including filmmakers, had saved millions in the cooperative.

The revolving fund of the Bhuwan Chaitya Basundhara Foundation was also kept in the same cooperative. As a Prize of Rs 150,000 is being distributed annually, the distribution of the prize has also been affected due to the non-receipt of funds from the cooperatives.

More than 1,167 complaints have been lodged in the civil cooperative scam under the leadership of Ichchha Raj Tamang, a former MP. A complaint of fraud of Rs 460 million has been lodged against them and they have been arrested on the same basis.
