Action Against Multiplexes Operating Night Cinema Without Permission

Apr 18, Kathmandu- The Film Development Board has recommended the cinema halls found guilty during the monitoring to the concerned bodies for action. Monitoring was done on Big Movies, Fcube, VSR, and One Cinemas. These halls have been recommended for action to be taken after being found guilty during the monitoring.

It was found that data was not sent, even if it was sent, data was altered. Arjun Kumar, a member of the Film Development Board, said that the main objective was to defraud the revenue and sent it to the Inland Revenue Office and the Home Ministry for action.

The board had started monitoring the hall after receiving complaints that the cinema was run at night without permission. Arjun Kumar said that monitoring was done on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

The board has scheduled a review meeting on Tuesday (tomorrow) morning. After making a decision from the meeting, Arjun Kumar informed that he will go for monitoring all over the country including Kathmandu. The review meeting will decide on the action to be taken against the violators.

"After the monitoring, we found out how much mischief the cinema hall has done. We've got a lot more bullying than we thought", he said. We will take action on the spot against those who go against the law. The action will be taken till the hall is closed".

The Indian film 'KGF Chapter-2' was screened in some cinema halls at night without permission from the Ministry of Communications and Film Development Board. Some multiplexes in Kathmandu had run the show from 1 pm to 5 am as the spectator pressure was high.

It is mentioned in the Film Rules, 2057 that films can be screened only at the time specified by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. However, the time has not been specified in the regulations.
