15 Members Left The Party Due To Disagreement Over Tickets

Apr 27, Kathmandu- Fifteen leaders and cadres, including the secretary of the Nepali Congress Belaka Municipality, who had expressed dissatisfaction with the distribution of tickets, have left the party. Dissatisfied party leaders have revolted saying that they have been sidelined in the selection of candidates. They announced his resignation in a joint press release.

Former Nepali Congress leader Jay Prasad Subedi, Badri Bahadur Sapkota, former village party secretary Baburam Thapa, state member Bharat Karki, ward deputy president Sher Bahadur Basnet, Ram Kumar Khadka, and 15 other Nepali Congress leaders and regional representatives have left the party. Subedi was aspiring for the post of mayor. He is an old and honest leader of the party.

The cadres are dissatisfied after Congress nominated Ashok Karki as the mayoral candidate in Belaka municipality. He was defeated in the previous local elections. He expressed dissatisfaction saying that the person who was defeated once was given a ticket again and no consultation was taken with them.

The cadres have resigned from the party saying that the party was run in a one-sided manner and tickets were distributed in a factional manner. City Secretary Mayadevi Oli, who has left the party, wrote on social media, "I don't think I got angry because I didn't get the ticket. I was in the mood to contest the election even when I handed over the ticket".

She also writes that she will be free the rest of the time and give to her children and family. Nepali Congress Municipal President Ashok Karki and CPN-Maoist Central Chairman Manoj Tamang are in the fray for the post of mayor. Karki had earlier lost to CPN-UML's Durga Kumar Thapa. This time too, he will be competing with Thapa. UML has nominated Thapa for mayor and Jira Rai for deputy mayor.
