Jun 2, Kathamndu: It has been 21 years since the dynasty of the then former King Birendra Shah was annihilated. Members of the royal family and relatives were killed inside the palace on the night of June 2, 2001 AD. The massacre at the palace which is under high security is still a mystery.
That tragic night of June 2 still scares every Nepali. Even after the removal of the monarchy and the establishment of a republic in the country, the bad imprint of the dynasty of the then royal family has not been erased from the minds of Nepalis.
King Birendra, Queen Aishwarya, Prince Dipendra, Prince Nirajan, Princess Shruti, Prince Dhirendra, Princess Jayanti, Princess Shanti, Princess Sharda, Kumar Khadga, and other members of the royal family were killed in the incident. Wreaths have been laid at the statue of former King Birendra Bir Bikram Shahdev.
On the occasion of the 21st death anniversary of the former King Shah, a wreath was laid at his statue at Jawalakhel in Lalitpur on Thursday. Wreaths were laid and lamps were lit at the statue of the former King Shah organized by the Yogi Narharinath Trust Spiritual Council.
Those who came to pay their respects remembered him as a symbol of national unity and a development-loving king. Former Minister Durga Shrestha said that the former King Shah was a symbol of unity of the nation. He was remembered as a development lover, a king who gave good governance to the people.
Vice President of Yogi Narharinath Trust Spiritual Council Bimal Raj Sharma said that former King Birendra Shah was a nationalist king. Former King Birendra Birvikram Shahdev, who was born on the 28 December 1945 AD passed away with his family on the June 2, 2001 AD.
