Mobile Imports Decreased By Millions In A Year

Jun 21, Kathmandu- For some time now, the number of mobile phones entering Nepal has been declining. Mobile phone imports have declined, especially since the government banned the opening of letters of credit (LCs) for luxury goods, including expensive phones, citing declining foreign exchange reserves as a threat to the economy.

According to the data released by the Customs Department by the end of Jestha, 55.86 million 577 mobile phones worth more than Rs 38.06 billion have been imported in the last 11 months, i.e. from Shrawan to Jestha. Which is more than one lakh 70 thousand less than the first 11 months of the last fiscal year 077/78.

During that period, more than 34.14 billion mobile phones were imported in Nepal. Although the number of mobile imports has decreased this year as compared to the previous year, the cost seems to be more than Rs 4 billion.

Along with the annual import, the monthly mobile import is also declining significantly. According to the statistics, 53 lakh 65 thousand 115 mobile phones have been imported till Baishakh.

Last month, that is, till the end of Chaitra, 5 million 859 mobile phones worth more than 34.97 billion have been imported.

Statistics have shown that around four billion and a half lakh mobile sets were imported in Chait alone. In this regard, 3 lakh 64 thousand 256 mobile phones were imported from Chaitra to Baishakh.

However, mobile imports have come down to 2 lakh 18 thousand 462 units from April to May.

During this period, it is seen that the highest number of 441,347 mobiles were imported from China. However, India is in second place. 9 lakh 561 mobile phones have been imported from India till Jestha and 2 lakh 38 thousand 559 from Vietnam which is in the third place.
