Jun 22, Kathmandu:  Cholera has been confirmed in two more people in Kathmandu.

Cholera has been confirmed in two more people being treated at Shukraraj Tropical and Communicable Diseases Hospital, Teku. Earlier, cholera was confirmed in two sisters living in Bagbazar, Kathmandu.

The Epidemiology and Communicable Diseases Control Division is collecting samples from the Bagbazar area of ​​Kathmandu, the area where cholera has been confirmed. Samples of sewage, water, and food are being collected in the Bagbazar area. Infectious disease specialist Dr. Teku Hospital. Sher Bahadur Pun said that the risk of spreading cholera has increased in Kathmandu.

Another communicable disease specialist, Anup Bastola, said that even if cholera is seen in one person due to its rapid spread, it is considered a big risk. Cholera is a waterborne contagious disease caused by a bacterium called Vibrio cholera and is transmitted through ingestion of contaminated water or food. Symptoms last from one hour to five days after infection.

Symptoms of cholera include defecation, weakening of the muscles, constipation, vomiting, and fatigue. Doctors suggest starting primary treatment at home and going to the hospital immediately after seeing such symptoms.
