Rashid Elected As The President Of Iraq

Oct 14, Kathmandu- Kurdish politician Abdul Latif Rashid has been elected as the president of Iraq. After the voting in the Parliament on Thursday, the speaker announced that he was elected as the President. The parliament voted twice to elect a new president.

With the election of a new president in the country, it is believed that the political deadlock in Iraq is about to end. The newly elected President Rashid will replace the current President Barham Saleh. Rashid defeated him.

Among the MPs who participated in the voting, 160 people supported the newly elected President Rashid, while 99 people voted for Saleh. Iraq's parliament has failed twice before to elect a new president.

Rashid, who is now 78 years old, was previously the Water Resources Minister from 2003 to 2010.
