Nov 24, Kathmandu- In and around the western Indian city of Mumbai, 12 children have died from measles, authorities said. The first death was reported during the last week of October. Three children died within 48 hours of each other.
As of Wednesday, 233 cases of measles have been confirmed in the city this year. This is three times more than the previous year. Last year, two people died from measles.
Officials say that the slow vaccination campaign amid the Covid pandemic has given a big boost to measles infection. Measles is considered highly contagious. According to experts, it can cause more serious complications than Covid-19 in children under the age of five.
