Dec 13, Kathmandu: The Commission has decided to remove Tharu and Muslims from the list of Madhesi communities.
Commission Chairman Bijay Kumar Dutt said that the commission held a meeting on December 6 and decided to remove Tharu in sub-group 1 and Muslims in sub-group 2 from the Madhesi Surname Study Report-2078 in Nepal. Sabita Dangol, deputy secretary of the commission, has sent a letter to the office of the prime minister and the council of ministers to implement the decision of the Madhesi commission.
Various organizations of the Tharu and Muslim communities filed a complaint with the Madhesi Commission not to place them in the Madhesi cluster as the Tharu and Muslim communities have separate identities and civilizations and are incompatible with the Madhesi community.
According to Datta, the chairman of the commission, the commission decided to remove Tharu and Muslims from Madhesi after taking a decision on the complaint. The Madhesi Commission through its annual report of 2021/022 AD Recommended 149 castes including Tharus and Muslims as Madhesi to President Bidya Devi Bhandari.
