CAN Should Think Of Returning The Captaincy Of Sandeep Lamichhane: Advocate Ghimire

Jan 13, Kathmandu- Advocate Saroj Krishna Ghimire has said that the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has no choice but to give Sandeep Lamichhane the captaincy of the cricket team again for the development of cricket.

Advocate Ghimire said this while talking to the media after meeting cricketer Lamichhane at the central jail in Sundhara on Friday. He said that with Sandeep not being able to play cricket, taking into account the declining level of Nepali cricket, CAN should give the responsibility of the captain to Lamichhane as the captain again. He said that although CAN removed him from the captaincy after being accused of rape, Lamichhane should be given the captaincy after he is released from prison.

He said, "Honorable High Court has ordered Sandeep to be released on bail of 20 lakh rupees. Sandeep is under suspension, not in action, after he is released from jail, he should be given captaincy again. How the cricket situation is going, will be known only by looking at it. If cricket is to be saved, CAN should get serious and make Sandeep the captain of Nepal.

Advocate Ghimire said that he informed Sandeep about the order given by the court today. He said that the file from the high court will go to the district court, and after collecting the bribe in the district court, he will go back to the jail to complete some internal work, and after that, he will go to the district court for the date after the health check-up.

Cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane, who was arrested on rape charges, was ordered to be released on bail by the Patan High Court on Thursday. Overturning the order of District Court Kathmandu to remand Lamichhane for pre-trial detention, Patan High Court has ordered his release on a bond of 20 lakh rupees.
