Jan 28, Kathmandu- As of the afternoon of January 28, the Prime Minister's Office has given Lamichhane the status of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister on its website. While President Bidya Devi Bhandari has already given the responsibility of the Home Ministry to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

On January 27, the Supreme Court ruled that Lamichhane was ineligible to become a member of the House of Representatives because he had not completed the process of obtaining Nepali citizenship despite giving up American citizenship. After the Supreme Court's decision, Lamichhane lost his post as Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, Member of Parliament, and Chairman of the National Independent Party.
