Feb 17, Kathmandu- The name of the place where Phalelung rural municipality center of Panchthar is located has been changed. The meeting of the village executive committee decided to change the old name Thoklimba and retain Takepong.
The rural municipality announced in the gazette on Friday that the location of the Phalelung rural municipality center has been changed to Thakepung.
Senior Administrative Officer Dumbar Angdembe informed that the decision was passed by the meeting held on Magh 22 of the village executive. He says that even if the name is changed, the location of the center will not change.
The place where the rural municipality center is now was called Thakepung since ancient times, and there was opposition saying that it was corrupted and started to be called Thoklimba.
Angdembe said that according to the decision of the village executive, with the publication of the notice in the gazette, the place will be written as 'Phalelung rural municipality Office Thakepung Panchthar' along with colloquialism and government work, and also on the seal of the rural municipality.
The names of most of the places in Panchthar district are connected with the history and culture of the Limbu caste. Identity advocates have been holding pressure programs saying that the names of most of the places have been corrupted. Village Chairman Bir Bikram Thamsuhang said that the name was changed based on identity and culture.
