Mar 19, Kathmandu: After about 14 years, the Independent Student Union (iISU) election is being held today on the campus under Tribhuvan University(TU). The voting time for the election is scheduled from 8 am to 4 pm on Sunday.

The affiliated and affiliated campuses of the University have completed preparations for the elections. This time, the sole agenda of all student organizations have been decided after the ISU elections. Even though it has been announced many times, the ISU elections have not been held before. Political parties to student organizations are enthusiastic about the ISU elections to be held today.

The student body, which has been enthusiastic since the registration of candidature has become more enthusiastic about the election. They are now trying to create an atmosphere in their favor. The country has become self-organized with the election held on the same day in 62 university campuses and 1,040 campuses across the country.

Students studying in the university and to implement the agreement reached by them through the movement, to ensure student representation in the formulation and implementation of the policies of the campus and university, to maintain the educational environment in the campus and for the all-round development of the students, the self-election is being held.

Swaviyu elections have not been held regularly since 2009 AD. The local-level elections held in 1998 AD were held in 2018 AD after the Republic came to power. Now the ISU elections are going to be held after about 14 years. Student Directorate director Pashupati Adhikari welfare and sports said that the elections are now possible due to the support of the government, political parties, and student organizations.

He said that the election process did not go ahead because there was no agreement between the student organizations on some campuses. The official also said that the campus has been instructed to start the election process as soon as possible. All Nepal National Independent Student's Union(ANNISU) president Samik Badal says that student attraction has decreased due to the absence of the Swawiyu elections held every two years.

He said that the students were excited because of the Swaviyu elections which started after 14 years. ANNISU revolutionaries general secretary Dipesh Punsaid that the student movement has weakened due to the lack of elections in the ISU. He said that the ISU elections are possible because this is the only agenda of all the students. ANNISU Sudesh Parajuli president said that the ISU elections will increase the height of the student movement.

Dinesh Shahi, the leader of the Nepal Students' Union, said that this was possible because the students' organization was united in the context of the Swaviyu elections. In most of the campuses, the student organization of the ruling coalition Nepal Vidyarthi Sangh, Aneraswaviyu revolutionaries and Aneraswaviyu have coordinated in the Swaviyu elections.

According to the director officer of the sports directorate, the history of SWVYU elections has been held since 2018-19. Since 2030, the Swaviyu elections have been held every two years since 2036. Since then, after the establishment of republic in the country, the regular elections of SWVYU could not be held until 2065. In 2073, for the first time, elections were held with a mixed electoral system and an age limit of 28 years. But the election could not be held in many campuses. In the year 2073, only 9 campuses in the valley and 17 campuses outside the valley were held.

Since the year 2073, Swaviyu elections have started to be held in a mixed system. This time too, Swaviyu elections have started to be held in a mixed election system. The President, Secretary and Treasurer and 50% of the members will be elected through the direct election system and the Vice President, Joint Secretary and 50% of the members will be elected through the proportional election system.

Similarly, an age limit has been set for the candidates in the Swaviyu elections. It has been arranged that only students born after Chait 28, 2051 can be candidates.

It is prohibited to take water bottles, petrol, diesel, intoxicants, medicinal products, glass bottles, paint, ink to the polling station. Similarly, items such as mobile phones, cameras, bags, walking sticks, helmets, keys, lighters, knives, knives, sharp weapons, spears, machete, knives and knives are prohibited from being taken to the polling station.

10. No election on campus

Due to the mutual dispute between the student organizations, the election will not be held on the scheduled date in 10 campuses under Tribhuvan University.

Elections on that campus have been postponed for the time being after the students' organization blamed each other for admitting students behind the time set by the university.

According to the Directorate of Student Welfare and Sports under the Territorial University, which conducts the elections, the election process has been disrupted in Trichandra Campus, Ratnarajya Lakshmi Campus, Vishwabhasha Campus, Central Ayurveda Campus, Amrit Science Campus, Patan United Campus, Nepal Commerce Campus.

Similarly, the election process has not started in Prithvi Narayan Campus in Pokhara outside the valley, Dhaulagiri Multipurpose Campus in Baglung, and Siddhanath Science Campus in Mahendranagar.

Most of these campuses are locked. In some cases, the process has been halted after the election committee officials resigned. Rajendra Gautam, coordinator of the election committee, said that the election committee of Trichandra Campus has started the election process by voting on March 9.

Electrical machines in four campuses

Four campuses will use electronic voting machines for voting in the elections.

Prof. Pashupati Adhikari, member secretary of the Central Monitoring and Coordinating Committee of Swaviyu Elections, informed that the Central Campus, Pulchok Engineering Campus, Thapathali Engineering Campus and Purvanchal Engineering Campus Dharan will use electronic machines for voting. Ramalakshman Innovations Pvt Ltd electronic voting machines will be used in all those campuses.

According to him, 16 electric machines will be used in Central Campus of Trivi, 14 in Pulchok Engineering, 12/12 in Thapathali Engineering Campus and Purvanchal Engineering Campus.

He said that the results of the four campuses will also be announced today. There are 62 direct candidates in Trivi campus, 58 in Pulchok campus, 41 in Thapathali campus and 45 in Purvanchal campus. There are 3,339 voters in the Central Campus of the University, 1,750 in the Thapathali Campus, 2,699 in the Pulchok Campus and 1,941 in Dharan.
