ISU Elections Voting Has Started

Mar 19, Kathmandu: Independent Students' Union (ISU) elections voting has started in affiliated campuses of Tribhuvan University(TU).

Polling started at 8 am on most of the campuses. Voting will continue till 4 pm. TU has requested to use discretion and vote confidently to select qualified leadership. TU has 62 affiliated and 1,040 affiliated campuses. Out of them, 48 officials and one-third of affiliated campuses are going to hold ISU elections today.

Due to the dispute between student organizations, the election process has been postponed in 12 official campuses including Ratnarajya, Trichandra, Minbhawan, Patan, and Ayurveda in Kathmandu valley, while the leadership has been elected unopposed in Dhankuta and Gorkha campuses.

There is a provision that ISU elections should be held every two years. Although there were 26 official campuses in the year 2016 AD, regular elections have not been held in most of the campuses since 2065.

The main competition will be between the student organizations of major political parties in the ISU elections. This time, Nepali Congress's New Union, Maoist Center's All Nepal National Independent Student's Union(ANNISU)  Revolutionary, and Integrated Socialist ANNISU have joined forces. While UML's student organization ANNISU is in a separate election field.
