President Of Iran Invited To Visit Saudi Arabia

Mar 20, Kathmandu- Saudi Arabia has sent an invitation to the President of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, for an official visit, Tehran said.

About a week ago, only on March 10, Saudi Arabia and Iran reached a historic agreement to expand relations with the mediation of China.

It is said that the visit was invited by King Salman of Saudi Arabia, but the Saudi authorities have not confirmed it.

A senior Iranian official, Mohammad Jamshidi, tweeted about the invitation to visit Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, and it is said that Raisi welcomed this move. He also said that Iran is ready to expand relations.

Likewise, Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, speaking to journalists, said that both countries have agreed to a foreign minister-level meeting. He said that three possible locations have been proposed for the meeting.

Relations between the two countries are getting closer in the days after the restoration of diplomatic relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia through the mediation of China. Both countries have said that they will open embassies in each other's countries within two months.

After years of tension, diplomatic relations between the two countries ended in January 2016 following the riots at the Saudi embassy in Tehran.

A decade and a half after the armed conflict that pitted Saudi-backed fighters against Iran-backed armed groups, much of the region has been engulfed in conflict.

The Saudi-led coalition military campaign to defeat Iran-backed rebels in Yemen has led to the world's worst humanitarian crisis.

In Syria, Iran supported President Bashar al-Assad. He unleashed his forces against rebels supported by Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries.
