Apr 01, Kathmandu- India's Punjab and Haryana High Court has become the first court in the country to use ChatGPT. The High Court has used ChatGPT to decide whether or not to release the murder accused on bail.
According to an article published in an international news agency, in the courtroom of Advocate Anup Chitkar, the decision on whether to release the accused of murder arrested in June 2020 on bail or not was taken using ChatGPT.
After providing all the details of the incident, the bail application was rejected based on the answer given by ChatGPT. The case of committing a heinous crime like murder is not an ordinary case. However, advocate Chitkar said that chat GPT was used to make a decision to practice what artificial intelligence would suggest and after ChatGPT also answered that the accused of murder could not be released on bail, the decision was taken accordingly.
This topic is currently being discussed among the legal professions of India. Some have called it a practice of the future, while some have expressed that although it seems useful for the time being, it may have negative effects in the long run.
