Apr 5, Kathmandu: Former US President Donald Trump has been arrested. According to the BBC, he has been kept in police custody.
He is the first former president to face criminal charges in the United States.
He surrendered at the Manhattan Criminal Court on Tuesday afternoon.
After 1 pm, he left Trump Tower and went to court.
Before getting into the car, he turned to the media and waved to the camera.
His car reached the court within a few minutes. "It's so unreal - wow, they're going to arrest me," he wrote on his social media as he drove from Trump Tower to the Manhattan Criminal Courthouse.
He was calm and serious as he entered the courtroom. From time to time he looked at the crowd outside and waved his hand.
After entering the court, he surrendered to the authorities and the process of registering a case against him proceeded.
He was not even handcuffed after his arrest. Inside the courtroom, he sat before the judge with his team of lawyers.
Then he submitted his plea. Trump is the first former or current US president in American history to face criminal charges.
And reactions to his arraignment were split along party lines. Republicans see the arraignment as an abuse of the legal system and call it a weaponization of the system for political purposes.
For them, it was aimed at derailing Trump’s bid for a second term in the 2024 presidential election.
