May 26, Kathmandu- Parsa police have arrested 4 people for their involvement in betting on cricket. Parsa police have arrested 4 persons including 1 Indian from Birgunj on the charge of betting on the ongoing IPL cricket in India.

Sanjay Srivastava was arrested by the police team from the District Police Office on Wednesday when he was betting on the Lucknow Supergiants match against the Mumbai Indians at the house of Sanjay Srivastava located in Birgunj Metropolitan City-15. Those arrested are 31-year-old Saroj Shah of Bara Kalaiya Umanpa-4, 35-year-old Santosh Kumar Yadav of Sarlahi Ramnagar Rural Municipality-6, 34-year-old Dhurendra Prasad Yadav of Birganj Municipal Corporation-24 and 52-year-old Munna Munna of Gorakhpur Deuria, Uttar Pradesh, India.

During the search of the house, mobile phones used for betting, laptops, and Nepali currency worth 390,500 rupees and 15,750 rupees in currency were also recovered. A 20-inch LED TV of Idea Company, which was used to watch the live broadcast of the game, was also found. DSP Deepak Giri, the spokesperson of the district police office, informed that the four arrested persons are being investigated by the district administration office on Wednesday for betting-related offences. He said that after a long and thorough investigation, he succeeded in reaching this gang.

For a long time, there was a rumor that betting groups were betting during the IPL cricket in Birgunj. In the past, during the Indian IPL and World Cup cricket, there was talk of a group of young people investing huge sums of money in betting. Since IPL is held every year and its craze is high among cricket lovers in this area, it is becoming easier for betting groups to run their businesses.
