Jan 2, Kathmandu- Today, it has been 22 years since the death of the then King Birendra.
This incident happened on Jeshtha 19, 2058. It is believed that the mysterious murder took place during the family gathering of Birendra. 9 members of the royal family including King Birendra were killed in the Durbar Massacre. King Birendra, Queen Aishwarya, Prince Dipendra, Adhiraj Kumari Shruti, Nirajan Bir Bikram Shah, uncle Dhirendra Shah, aunt Shanti, Shraddha, Jayanti and Shraddha's husband Kumar Khadga Bikram Shah were killed in the incident.
Even after 22 years of Darbar murder, no investigation has been done. Although an inquiry committee was formed under the chairmanship of the then Speaker Taranath Ranabhat, no facts have come out so far. Although there are many speculations about the murder, the facts have not come out. Although the report made after the investigation stated that the then Crown Prince Dipendra had committed the murder, a large group of people were still involved in it.
According to the committee, a dinner was going on that night at the palace. More than a dozen people from the royal family including King Birendra and Queen Aishwarya were present. Rajkumar Dipendra, the host of the dinner, came to the hall at 8 pm. He was in full military uniform. He had a modern submachine gun and a Colt rifle in one hand. A 9mm pistol was kept in his uniform. Dipendra looked at his father Raja Birendra and pressed the trigger of the submachine gun held in his right hand. Then, within a few minutes, 9 members of the royal family present there were murdered. In the end, Prince Dipendra also shot himself.
Birendra's two brothers, middle Gyanendra, are the only ones left. Dhirendra Shah was also killed along with Birendra's family. Birendra was the tenth king of the Shah Dynasty. He assumed power on Monday, 17th of January 2028, Bikram Samvat. On the other hand, after the assassination of Birendra, Gyanendra took over the throne. After that, there was a rumor that he had planned a palace murder case against him.
With the advent of the Republic, the former king Gyanendra Shah left the royal palace saying that he would help investigate the palace murder case. It has been years since the late Girija Prasad Koirala, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Madhav Kumar Nepal and others promised to leave the palace after investigating the murder case when he was the prime minister. Recently, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has said that he will investigate the Darbar murder case and bring it to a conclusion. But there is doubt that there will be an investigation.
