According to the office, there are 26 million seven thousand 744 Hindus in Nepal. Which is 81.19 percent of the total population. According to the census of 2068, the number of people following Hinduism in Nepal was 81.3 percent.
The Hindu population has declined from 81.3 percent to 81.19. In the period of 10 years, the percentage of Hindus has decreased by 0.11.
Buddhism is the second religion in Nepal after Hinduism. The statistics show that the number of those who follow Buddhism has also decreased. According to the details of the office, there are 23 lakh 93 thousand 549 people. Which is 8.21 percent of the total population.
According to the census of 2068, the percentage of Buddhists in Nepal was 9 percent. It has decreased by 1 percent over a period of 10 years.
According to the information released by the statistics office on Friday, the number of people who follow Islam, Kirat and Christianity has increased.
In the third place, there are 14 lakh 83 thousand 66 people who follow the Muslim religion. Which is 5.08 percent of the total population. According to the 2068 census, the number of Muslims was 4.4 percent.
Similarly, there are nine lakh 24 thousand 204 people who follow the Kirat religion. Which is 3.17 percent of the total population. According to the census of 2068, 3 percent believed in Kirat religion.
The number of Christians in Nepal is 512 thousand 313. Which is 1.76 percent of the total population. According to the 2068 census, the number of Christians in Nepal was 1.4 percent.
Based on the answers given by the respondents and according to the recommendations of the expert group, the number of castes, number of mother tongues and number of religions have been maintained in the National Census 2078, the office said.
