Aug 24, Kathmandu- The police have arrested two people on fraud charges for asking for money claiming to have won an iPhone prize.
The Cyber Bureau of the Police arrested 30-year-old Rajkumar Pandit of Bahudarmai Municipality-8 in Parsa and Umesh Kumar Yadav of Kataharia Municipality-1 in Rautahat on charges of luring a woman to win an iPhone in a lucky draw through TikTok, Facebook, WhatsApp and cheating a woman by forcing her to deposit money in a bank for customs duty.
Cyber Bureau spokesperson Superintendent of Police Pashupati Rai informed that they asked a woman to send money to her bank account saying that she had won an iPhone in a lucky draw by Zam Zam Electronics.
On August 4, a team deployed by the bureau arrested them from Gusingal in Kupandol. Cyber Rai informed that permission has been obtained from District Court Kathmandu to detain them for 7 days for investigation.
The police also seized 49 lakh 95 thousand rupees in cash, 7 mobile phones, 183 SIM cards, and a router from them.
