Sep 14, Kathmandu- Five people have been killed in landslides along with flooding in northern Vietnam. Four others have gone missing in the incident.

The National Operation Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control reported on Thursday that 13 houses were destroyed, 150 hectares of agricultural production, and 61 fishing centers were destroyed in Lao Cai province in the northern mountainous region of Vietnam.

A 'natural disaster emergency' has been declared in the tourist spot of Sapa city in the same province. It is estimated that more than 100 million US dollars was damaged in Lao Cai province alone. Likewise, nine houses in Hagiang and Yen Bai provinces were buried and 30 hectares of rice and vegetable crops were flooded.

The Department of Meteorology has requested the residents of the coastal areas to be alert, saying that there is a possibility of more rain in the coming days and there may be flash floods. The National Army has been instructed to relocate the flood-affected people to a safe place and protect the property of the people.

According to the Statistics Office of Vietnam, 79 people died and 91 people were injured due to natural disasters in the first eight months of this year.

During this period, more than 82 million US dollars worth of physical property has been destroyed. Compared to the previous year, this financial loss is 64.8 percent less.
