Use WhatsApp, Signal or Telegram? Change these settings now!

February 1,Kathmandu

Most users have started using telegrams and signals since WhatsApp's privacy policy was updated. But both telegrams and signals are not 100% reliable. If you want to protect your privacy, you may need to change some security settings.

WhatsApp

WhatsApp is an end-to-end encryption messaging service. No one in the company can see the message exchanged by the user.

But it can access your metadata. For example device information, contact, IP address, location, etc.

Make the following changes to your security settings to make WhatsApp more secure;

1. Don't look at the malicious content you receive. Such as unknown links and attachments.

2. Disable the option to automatically save the image received from WhatsApp in the phone's gallery.

3. Use the PIN number for two-step verification to prevent access to your account.

4. Turn off the backup. If you back up your chat history with Apple or Google Cloud, it becomes insecure. Because there is no end-to-end encryption facility.

Telegram

If the OTP code you receive when signing up for a telegram account falls into the hands of someone else, your account may be hijacked.

1. Activate two-factor authentication. To do this, go to Settings and go to the Privacy and Security section and enter the password.

2. Change your privacy settings. Adjust the privacy section so that only the person in your contact can connect with you.

You can also determine who can view your profile, whether your status is online or offline, or who can add you to a group.

3. Use lock code. This protects your chat if someone else has access to your device.

4. Review active sessions from time to time on your account. You can find out if someone has accessed your account from any other device.

5. Cannot work on secret chat and end-to-end encryption feature group chat. If you want a secret chat, go to the chat box and start a secret chat by clicking on the three dot dot (Android) or More (iOS) at the top.

6. Activate Self Destruction. Doing so will automatically lose any message within a few minutes of viewing.

Signal

The advantages and limitations of signals are similar to those telegrams. Although Alan Musk himself suggested using this app, it is not safe.

1. Activate the registry lock. If your account is hijacked or stolen, no one will be able to access your conversation history.

2. Lock screen using biometric security or passcode.

3. Turn off the preview to prevent the message from appearing on the main screen.

4. Disable screenshots outside the app.

5. Make it your default SMS messaging app.
