Nov 24, Kathmandu- The parliamentarians have requested to increase the budget saying that the resources for the operation of the parliamentary committee are insufficient. In today's meeting of the Legislation Management Committee under the National Assembly, the MP complained that the budget was not received as per the requirement.
Chairperson of the committee, Jayanti Devi Rai, said that due to a lack of budget, it is difficult to conduct the annual programs decided under the committee. Presenting the Annual Program Allocation Statement for Parliamentary Committees 2080-81, Chairman Rai said that due to the low budget, the committee's activities could not be conducted effectively.
Dr. Khimlal Devkota, a member of the committee, stated that the financial condition of the parliamentary committee representing the government is weak. He said that due to a lack of budget in the committee, it was not possible to work according to the target in the specified program.
Devendra Dahal, another member of the committee, also raised questions about the effectiveness of the annual program scheduled with the adequate budget for the Parliament Secretariat. Last year, the committee was allocated a budget of Rs. 1.5 million, but it was not able to spend the amount, said MP Dahal, who was of the opinion that rather than having too much budget, care should be taken when choosing the program.
Committee member Jitendra Narayan Dev said that the Legislation Management Committee has done a satisfactory job. He expressed the belief that this committee has been able to achieve the results of the program determined by the other committees as per the target and now it will be successful according to the plan for the financial year 2080-81.
Member of Parliament Ganga Kumari Belwase has already visited four provinces through the committee and requested the Chairman to decide on a plan to visit the remaining Karnali, Sudurpaschim, and Madhesh provinces as well.
For the functioning of 16 different thematic committees under the Federal Parliament, the government through the Federal Parliament Secretariat has allocated a lump sum budget of Rs.28 million for the current year 2080/81 A total of Rs 16 million has been allocated by each committee secretariat at the rate of Rs 10 lakh for the monitoring program of their respective committees.
