Jan 21, Kathmandu- The CIB has handed over the investigation file related to the co-operative scam involving the owner of Galaxy Television, Gitendra Babu (GB) Rai, as well as the Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, Rabi Lamichhane.
According to CIB, the file under investigation in the police office outside the valley was sent to Kathmandu and further investigation was started. It is alleged that GB Rai's group embezzled more than 1.35 billion from Pokhara-based Suryadarshan Cooperative. The District Police Office Kaski investigated it. The case of Suryadarshan Sahakari is currently pending in court. From Suryadarshan, RSP Chairman Lamichhane is also accused of embezzling funds by taking a loan without collateral.
Central Bureau of Investigation has handed over the investigation file of the local police on Supreme Savings located in Butwal, Sahara Chitwan Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society in Chitwan and Small Steps in Birganj. It is alleged that Lamichhane and Rai embezzled the funds of the cooperative by bringing them into the account of Gorkha Media Network. GB and Rabi are also involved in the Swarnalakshmi Savings and Loan Cooperative Scam in Kathmandu.
