Feb 06, Kathmandu- Sushmita Chhetri was murdered on the night of Ashadha 1, 2077 in her own house at 4 Karra Surya Chowk, Hetaunda Sub-Metropolitan City. His father-in-law Prakash Thapa, Nand Sita Thapa, mother-in-law Tulsa Thapa and elder Nand Durga Thapa Karki were detained and investigated by the police as they were involved in his murder. Sushmita married Prakash's son Rupendra Thapa on 18th Baisakh, 2076.
Rupendra died in a motorcycle accident on Ashwin 23, 6 months after his marriage, while returning from his in-laws' place in Kapilvastu. After Rupendra's death, Sushmita was subjected to sexual violence by her father-in-law Prakash Thapa, the court also held. During the police investigation, it was revealed that Sushmita was forced into the bathroom by her father-in-law, Prakash Thapa. The police found a note made by Sushmita about the physical, mental and sexual abuse given by her in-laws and family members.
Sushmita's death is due to financial reasons, Pepadat family believes. Sushmita's parents held a press conference today (Tuesday) at the Reporters Club in Nepal. They said that Sushmita's deceased husband Rupendra had insured 10 lakhs in an insurance company and the company he worked for, Closure System International Nepal Pvt. They concluded that he was killed due to a family dispute regarding the payment of 28 thousand 472 rupees.
They allege that the Makwanpur District Court found them guilty in the incident and that they are doing various manipulations to influence the decision of the High Court when the sentence has already been passed.
After the death of Sushmita's husband, the rights that the wife should get are still being denied. She didn't make it to the ninth month. "Due to various pressures, the money from Closure System International, which my son-in-law worked for, has not yet come. Sushmita has signed. Sushmita was beaten to death by her family. Even when she was alive, she was deprived of this right," said Sushmita's father.
Sushmita's mother Ganga KC said that even though she can no longer find Sushmita, she is fighting a legal battle so that no one's daughters are killed anymore. Demanding strict legal action against the killers of the daughters who were killed in this way, she expressed her belief that she would get justice.
