Former Austrian Chancellor Kurz Sentenced To Eight Months In Prison

Feb 24, Kathmandu- Austria's former chancellor Sebastian Kurz has been sentenced to eight months in prison after finding him guilty on Friday by the Vienna Regional Court.

According to the Austrian news agency APA, the court mentioned in the verdict that Kurz made a false statement before the investigative committee of the Austrian parliament.

Evidence shows that he had more influence over the appointment of the advisory committee of the state-owned company OEBAG than he admitted during a parliamentary inquiry.

The thirty-seven-year-old served as the Chancellor of Austria from 2017 to 2019 and from 2020 to 2021. He resigned from the post of Chancellor in October 2021 after being accused of corruption. In December 2021, he announced that he would be away from politics.
