There should be a directly elected representative assembly for political stability: MP Khatiwada

Apr 02, Kathmandu- Nepali Congress MP Ramhari Khatiwada has emphasized that there should be a directly elected representative assembly for political stability.

Speaking to the media after the meeting of the House of Representatives today, MP Khatiwada said that for political stability, a proportional system should be removed and a directly elected House of Representatives should be arranged. He said that as long as there is a proportional election system in the country, no political party will get a majority and the government will also be unstable. Khatiwada said that by keeping only 240 constituencies, only directly elected MPs should be made. Instead, quotas can be allocated for women and Dalits within the same constituency, he said.

Also, Khatiwada said that proportionality should not be kept in the provinces and the National Assembly should be made proportional. Khatiwada said that when there is a directly elected representative assembly, a majority of one political party can come and a stable government can be formed.
