Nepal Eye Hospital Completes 50 Years Of Establishment

Apr 07, Kathmandu- Nepal Eye Hospital has completed 50 years since its establishment. In a press conference organized to inform about the Golden Festival on Sunday, the hospital has informed that 34 lakh 38 thousand 572 people have been examined and 137 thousand 174 people have been operated on during 50 years.

Nepal Eye Hospital in Tripureshwor, Kathmandu is the first hospital in Nepal to provide specialist services in the field of eye health, according to Yudhdhwaj Sapkota, the secretary of the hospital. He said, "You must have heard that a few months ago, the hospital performed eye surgery on a small child. We have implemented the eye screening service for premature babies with priority, only recently during the screening of 400 people, problems were found in 35 people".

15 ophthalmologists and 113 employees are working in that hospital. Sapkota said that services are being provided from separate departments for cornea, cataract, cataract, retina, oculoplasty and children's eye services.

The hospital, which has been providing services with modern technology and quality equipment, said that it has formed a board to conduct necessary research for eye diagnosis and treatment.

In the eight months of the current financial year, 1 lakh 1 thousand 734 people have received services from the external department of the hospital. At present, 400 to 700 people are coming to the hospital daily to receive outpatient services.

Sapkota also said that the hospital examines the eyes of school-level students and provides free glasses. This year alone, 14,994 people were examined and 1,010 people were given free glasses, the hospital said.
