Apr 13, Kathmandu- Gandaki University is different from other universities in the country. Its establishment by the state government is not the only difference. The operating procedure is different from all other universities.

In Gandaki University, the Vice-Chancellor is an academic figure and the Vice-Chancellor is the head of the government unlike in other universities. Its chancellor has been made an academic personality. There is no system in Gandaki where the chancellor of universities including Tribhuvan is the prime minister and the vice-chancellor is the minister of education.

A trustee of academic personalities. That is why the chancellor chooses an academic person. Now Prof. Dr. Ganeshman Gurung is the Chancellor. Prof. Dr. Navraj Devkota Vice Chancellor. He was also selected and given responsibility by the trustee.

Gandaki University, which was established on 4th Falgun 2076, is currently teaching Pharmacy, BBA, Information Technology, Law and Sports Management. 476 students are in the university. Those students are not only from 11 districts of Gandaki province. According to Registrar Dr. Kailash Timilsina, students from 52 districts have come to study at Gandaki University.

The university has an annual operating cost of Rs 11 crore and its own income is Rs 7 crore. Timilsina says that teaching popular subjects such as BBA, pharmacy, and law has helped in running the university. Now, the university has also made a plan to conduct the study of subjects including artificial intelligence (AI), tunnel engineering. The university is studying whether subjects such as planning of cooperatives and municipalities, which are necessary in the country but are not taught anywhere, can also be taught.

A university should not only be a place of pure teaching and production of knowledge but also a centre of research. Following the same recognition, Gandaki University is running the Innovation Center in collaboration with Mahabir Pun. The university has completed phase one research on local millet liquor. According to the research of the university, the standards of the market necessary for making millet liquor have been prepared. Now, the university is researching how and by which method alcohol is made from that market, which is healthy and non-toxic.

Within a short period of its establishment, the capital expenditure of the university, which has already constructed 32 buildings in Pokhara Metropolitan City, is 90 percent. Its value is zero.
