Ministry Of Education Demands The Authority To Investigate 43 People

Apr 15, Kathmandu- The Ministry of Education has decided to write to the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority to investigate those who have been recommended action in the report of the Commission of Inquiry on Medical Education.

The report of the commission led by ex-judge Gauri Bahadur Karki, which has not yet made public for 6 years, was released by the ministry on Chaitra 28. In the report, action was recommended against 43 people, including former vice-chancellor of Tribhuvan University Tirtha Khanian, Hira Bahadur Maharjan. According to the Secretariat of Education Minister Sumana Shrestha, a ministerial decision was taken on Monday to proceed with the necessary action process after the preliminary study by publishing the report.

He said that departmental action will be taken against others who are under the jurisdiction of the ministry. According to Minister Shrestha's secretariat, action will be taken against Tribhuvan University's legal adviser, Advocate Narayan Khanal, among others, who have been recommended for action. The vice chancellor of Kathmandu University has been accused of playing a role in linking Birat and Devdaha Medical Colleges for not meeting the standards of the university. Action was also recommended against Ramakanth Makaju.

The commission has also recommended the removal of Dean Ram Prasad Khatiwada, Rajendra Paudel and Hari Parajuli from the Faculty of Science of Tribhuvan University as members of the executive council of the university.
