Complaints Against 271 Cooperatives

May 07, Kathmandu- In recent times, the trust of common citizens towards cooperatives has been vanishing. With the increase in embezzlement of the savings deposited in cooperatives, trust in cooperatives has decreased. Statistics show that many complaints have been filed against cooperatives in Kathmandu in Bagmati Province.

Complaints have been lodged against 271 cooperatives till Sunday 23 Baisakh 2081 in the Cooperative Division under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Cooperatives of Bagmati Province. There are 172 complaints against cooperatives in Kathmandu the most, while there are zero complaints against cooperatives in Sindhuli, Dhading and Rasuwa of the province. According to the statistics of the division, 33 complaints were received from Lalitpur, 16 from Bhaktapur, 7 from Kavrepalanchowk, 2 each from Chitwan, Ramechhap and Makwanpur, one each from Sindhuli, Dolakha and Nuwakot.

The first complaint was filed in the department established in 2075 on 19 Falgun 2076. According to Manoj Gupta, legal officer of the division, complaints of different nature have been received from savers, debtors and directors. There are complaints that the chairman of the board of directors has run away, the savings amount has not been returned, high interest rates have been charged, the directors and others have not paid their debts, quarrels among the directors, interference with the rights of the board of directors, etc.

There are 3 thousand 27 cooperatives operating in Bagmati Province, including savings and loan, multi-purpose, agricultural, dairy and others. The largest number of savings and loans is 1,524, multi-purpose 1,433, agriculture 256, dairy 50, district cooperative association 13. Naib Subba Bhim Bahadur Pakhrin informed that there are 1 thousand 659 cooperatives in Kathmandu, 450 in Lalitpur, 185 in Bhaktapur, 180 in Kavre, 139 in Nuwakot, 120 in Dhading, 129 in Chitwan, 82 in Makwanpur, 86 in Dolkha, 37 in Rasuwa, 77 in Ramechhap, 29 in Sindhuli and 34 in Sindhupalchok. .
