National Conference Of Bar Associations Meaningful For Court Restructuring

May 16, Kathmandu- The National Conference of Nepal Bar Council is being held in Kathmandu on the 4th, 5th and 6th of Jestha.

This conference, which was prepared with the slogan of 'Competent lawyers, decent bar, restructuring of the judiciary as a basis for strengthening democracy', is seen as an important program by the entire judicial sector. The conference is seen to raise questions about the tenure of Supreme Court judges and their service period. This conference will be meaningful for the restructuring of the courts.

Especially when the debate on strengthening the courts was going on, under the coordination of senior advocate Purnaman Shakya, the Nepal Bar formed a 9-member study and suggestion committee on the matter of the courts on Chaitra 28 last year. Which has decided the agendas of the 16th All Nepal Legal Practitioners National Conference 2081 and submitted it to the Nepal Bar. The debate on the issue of court reform started from the annual general meeting of the Nepal Bar held in Surkhet last Ashwin, and on that date it was decided to study the tenure of judges.

After that, the 49th Central Executive Council meeting held in Sauraha, Chitwan in Mangsir 2080 directed that the term of office of the Supreme Court judge should be 7 years and that a committee should be formed to study and suggest the issue of restructuring the judiciary, take opinions and submit proposals based on the opinions received at the National Conference. At the same time, the Independent Legal Practitioners Forum also put forward the demand that the entire judiciary should be restructured and that the unitary justice system could not reach justice to the citizens, and that there should be a federal justice system. On 28th Chaitra 2080, the Nepal Bar formed a 9-member task force to provide opinions and suggestions for the reform of the country's justice sector. and asked for consultation.

Former Attorney General Mukti Pradhan, former Treasurer of Nepal Bar, Senior Advocate Savita Bhandari Baral, former Attorney General and Senior Advocate Ramesh Badal, former Bar Secretary General and former Attorney General Khamba Bahadur Khati, Advocate Pankaj Karn, former Provincial Attorney General Dipendra Jha and the coordinator of Independent Lawyers Forum Yagyamani Neupane were there. The suggestion committee including the Nepal Bar has conducted programs in all seven provinces, collected opinions and suggestions and submitted the report to the Nepal Bar.
