Restoration Of A Seven-Decade-Old Library

Jun 18, Kathmandu- The new building of Bhim Library located in Swayambhusthan, Bhimeshwar Municipality-3 of Dolakha, which was destroyed in the earthquake of 2072, has been completed.

"The oldest Bhim library building in the district has been built with the help of donors," said Stalin Shrestha, the ward president of Bhimeshwar-3, "Now the library will be operated by forming a management committee."

For the construction of the building, Atma Krishna Shrestha of Dolakha provided 1.5 million rupees through the Rupa Foundation established in memory of late Mrs. Rupa Shrestha. "Our ancestor farmers opened the library in the name of Tripura Library in 2010 because he needed a library," Shrestha said, "Later, the library which was operated under the name of Bhairav Library became known as Bhim Library after Bhim Higher Secondary School operated it".

The two-storied library building was destroyed by landslides before the earthquake. The earthquake destroyed it and became useless. Since then, the construction work of the new building started last year after the locals became active to revive the library which was in a dilapidated condition.

Even before the earthquake, Pari Library was destroyed in a fire in 2023. After this, a library was run in a room of the then Bhim Public High School. School teachers Ram Bahadur Shrestha (Kavitaram) and Amarkumar Pradhan took a special initiative then. In the same year, Pradhanpanch Bharat Bahadur Shrestha built a building and moved the library to its current location.
