South Africa Becomes The First Country To Win 7 Matches In T20 World Cup

Jun 24, Kathmandu- South Africa became the first country in T20 World Cup history to win 7 matches in a single edition. In the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, the record was set by defeating the West Indies by 3 wickets based on the Duckworth-Lewis method in the Super-8 on Monday.

Earlier in the T20 World Cup in 2009, Sri Lanka and Australia won 6 matches each in the same edition in 2010 and 2021. In Group D, South Africa defeated Sri Lanka by 6 wickets, Netherlands by 4 wickets, Bangladesh by 4 runs and Nepal by 1 run.

Similarly, in Super-8, from Group-2, South Africa defeated America by 18 runs, England by 7 runs and West Indies by 3 wickets, and reached the semi-finals by winning 7 times in a row.

South Africa topped Group-2 with 6 points from 3 matches. England reached the semi-finals by standing second with 4 points from 3 games with 2 wins and 1 loss.

The two teams that will reach the semi-finals from Group-1 are yet to be decided. There is a high probability that South Africa will play either Afghanistan or Australia in the semi-finals.
