Phanindra Devkota Appointed Gandaki's Energy Minister

Jun 30, Kathmandu- Nepal Samajwadi Party (NSP) Member of Parliament Phanindra Devkota has been appointed as Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Drinking Water of Gandaki Province.

Gandaki State Chief Minister Dilliraj Bhatta appointed Devkota as minister on Sunday. He also took the oath of office and confidentiality on Sunday.

He was appointed as a minister after giving a vote of confidence to Chief Minister Surendraraj Pandey. However, after the NCP (Maoist Centre) took action, the MP was also lost along with the ministerial post.

Against that he approached the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court had given an interim order to MPs of one party saying that the other party could not take action. Devkota had contested in the state assembly elections on the Maoist's election symbol. Based on that, the Maoists claimed to be their parliamentarians.

The Supreme Court ruled that even though he had contested on the Maoists' election symbol, he was a member of the NESP and the Election Commission had also given him a certificate as a member of the NSP. After the order of the Supreme Court, he was appointed as a minister after retaining the post of MP.
